Mayor proclaims Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival Week July 4-8
PORTLAND, Ore. (June 27, 2007)— Portland Mayor Tom Potter officially proclaimed July 4 to 8, 2007, as The Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival Week, at today’s Portland City Council meeting and encouraged all residents to observe the festival’s 20th anniversary.
Mayor Potter praised Oregon Food Bank, which operates the festival, for collecting more than 34-million pounds of food during the 2005-06 year and pointed out that the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival has a global reputation.
Commissioner Dan Saltzman noted that the festival is known for running smoothly. “As soon as the music stops on one stage, it begins on the next stage,” Salzman said, praising this year’s lineup and asking a festival official, “How did you get Eric Burdon and the Animals?”
“I always enjoy the festival,” Mayor Potter said. “And I encourage Portlanders to attend.”
